JD Samson’s MEN get to work in Australia 2012

MEN
Featuring JD Samson from Le Tigre… finally talk some body action across Australia, NZ and Asia early 2012.

MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective led by LE TIGRE’s JD Samson, cult icon and leader in the LGBT community and are currently in the studio recording their second full length record. Their first record, ‘Talk About Body’ was released in February through IAMSOUND Records, a subsidiary of Sony Records, and in the UK through Sony proper.

After touring the record for the bulk of the year, playing Coachella, the Melt Festival, touring with CSS on a 6 week US tour  (to name a few) and spending a lot of time enveloped by the new music industry, the band have decided to release their upcoming singles and subsequent full length record themselves, as well as to self-manage their career.

As a band that has emerged from the Feminist/Art/Punk scene in Brooklyn, they have always been focused on remaining a “DIY” project, and this moment seemed like the best time to take that step. In a society where the masses are rising up with protest by taking control of their needs, and what is owed to them, MEN feel that they are ready to take on the challenge, and help change the music industry by doing what they find passion in, and what they believe is real.

The band is also working with many different guest producers and guest musicians on their record including Alex Suarez (Cobra Starship),  XXXchange,  Santigold, Willy (Molly) Siegel of Ponytail, as well as collaborations from co-founders Emily Roysdon and Johanna Fateman (Le Tigre).

There are also some discussions of production or remix work from Azari and III, Boyz Noise, Jeppe, AdRock, Digitalism, Lauren Flax (Creep), Kim Ann Foxman, Teeth, CSS, and FM Belfast.

The band is certain that this change will bring them that much closer to their fans and that these feelings of equality will create a revolution in the music industry and in their own lives.

In the meantime MEN get to work and talk about body in Australia, New Zealand and some dates across Asia…

MEN’s album TALK ABOUT BODY out now on IAM SOUND

MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective led by LE TIGRE’s JD Samson, cult icon and leader in the LGBT community. MEN focus on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. Their music speaks of issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and the demand for liberties through lyrical content and an inventive, high-energy stage show.

The group began in 2007 with the DJ/production/remix team of LE TIGRE members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. With LE TIGRE on hiatus, when the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD’s other project HIRSUTE (Michael O’Neill, JD Samson, Emily Roysdon and Ginger Brooks Takahashi).

JD and Michael now comprise the core of MEN, with Johanna Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers. The band enjoys changing the shape of the project and collaborating every tour with new instrumentalists and visual elements. Last tour they were joined by Tami Hart of the band Making Friendz and this fall will be joined by percussionist Lee Free.

Selling out the physical copies of their debut self-released EP “MEN”, they released their debut album “Talk About Body” via IAMSOUND in 2011. The band have toured extensively all over the world, played Coachella 2011, have supported both Peaches and Gossip, a European/UK run and a headlining West Coast US tour, as well as a recent US tour in support of CSS.
