MONO electrical guests plus additional shows in Indonesia and at Newcastle Sound Summit.
MONO
Return from Japan plus guests… and now additional show in Jakarta.
Electrical Soil Australia/NZ/Asia 2011.
Aside from MONO now making a stop at Newcastle’s SOUND SUMMIT on SUN 2 OCT, they also make a stop in Jakarta after Perth on OCT 11. Details below.
The electrical guests joining Mono for this forthcoming tour will not only be WINTERCOATS performing at the Melbourne Festival show but also NO ANCHOR playing Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, along with USURPER OF MODERN MEDICINE in Perth; and SLEEPMAKESWAVES in Sydney; and SECRET BIRDS in Brisbane. Plus in Auckland very special guests JAKOB…
NO ANCHOR known for their unique line-up (two bass players and a drummer) and their pummelling volume, Brisbane sludge rockers No Anchor play support. Drawing songs from their three releases, including their most recent album ‘Real Pain Supernova’ (available as a 2xLP and a free download from http://noanchor.bandcamp.com), No Anchor make rare interstate appearances with these shows. Expect trouble.
SECRET BIRDS amorphous Brisbane-born Tokyo-based brainchild of D.Black, takes an astral-tinged journey through higher mind synth jams, commune float folk, and boogie-fried psychedelia. Jamming on strung-out tribal zone dirges, and darkened drum-machine trances., calling to mind the likes of NNCK, Sunroof!, or the heavier aspects of High Wolf. Starting as a solo project in 2005, Secret Birds has seen more than 30 musicians drafted as members of the experience, adding their contributions, and moving on when the time is right.
SLEEPMAKESWAVES bold approach to creating innovative instrumental music has seen their tracks receive airplay nationwide and as far afield as the BBC. Their electric live performances have seen them play with Pelican, Signal Hill, Unitopia and Russian Circles. In 2009 they conducted their first headline tour of Australia, enjoying sold out shows and headlining Sydney’s annual Menagerie experimental music festival. In 2011 they released their debut album “…and so we destroyed everything” through Bird’s Robe Records. The album’s lush production and heaving musicianship has resonated with listeners worldwide – sleepmakeswaves follow the release with an extensive tour of Australia and will play their first international shows in Europe and Asia in 2012. USURPER OF MODERN MEDICINE from Perth are a heavy live drums and bass in combination with digital signal processing. Featuring members of popular Perth groups including Injured Ninja, Mile End, Mongrel Country and Carbuncle. Usurper of Modern Medicine builds hypnotic jams based on digital synchronized loops and live samples that build into dynamic lush walls of sound. Just returned from a Japanese tour, their debut album Acid Chess is out now on
JAKOB New Zealand power gazed that at times puts the post into rock, and at others kicking the whole bloody fence down, Jakob’s lush and textured take on the guitar/bass/drums format continues to broaden and enthrall with every performance and release. Their music is captivating and mesmerizing, the sedate becoming devastating in the blink of a crowd’s collective eye. Echoing the graduated inclines and unexpected progressions found in their music and the expansive landscapes of their surroundings, this Napier three-piece has developed consistently, if sometimes unpredictably, since their formation in 1998
Mono grind their electric crescendo in the tumultuous ground spread before them.
Blurring the boundary between art-metal and neo-classical, Japanese post-rockers MONO, hailing from Tokyo, have long established themselves over the past 12 years as the leading voice of epic majestic noise. Their instrumental compositions are powerful, sweeping studies in the limits of the musical spectrum; from rumbling subsonic lows to dizzying harmonic highs. Over the years, they have developed their vast and beautiful noise into something entirely majestic. Their colossal orchestrations often incorporate strings, flutes, organ, piano, glockenspiel and tymphani as well as guitar and drums, balancing all elements masterfully with each new release and live performance.
More recently MONO’s sound has dynamically shifted into something bigger and more cinematic, none more so than during their special New York concert where they elevated their already legendary live show with a 24 piece orchestra entitled “MONO and The Holy Ground Orchestra”. So far they have performed it in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, London and New York (as documented in the Live CD/DVD release ‘Holy Ground’ on Temporary Residence)… and will include an exclusive Australian version for the Melbourne International Arts Festival on this 2011 tour.
“We have been playing music together as a band for over 12 years now and we feel we have come so far in that time, as musicians and as people. We want to push the boundaries of what is expected of rock musicians and draw upon those influences that heavily inspire us, namely Beethoven and other classical composers, and perform something very unique.”
“Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.” – Ludwig van Beethoven
