Sew up their debut Australian tour from Japan with their Harajuku street J-rock sounds as special invited guests forFuture Beauty Up Late at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), in conjunction with their summer exhibition ‘Future Beauty: 30 years of Japanese Fashion’.
In conjunction with the debut visit… Valve issue the debut Australian release for Broken Doll – 7 tracks of Japanese 80s punk harajuku style with influential love for Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Culture Club and all things 80’s LA metal ala Poison. Includes special cover art by Brisbane artist and friend Cherie.
Known for their energetic performances and flamboyant Harajuku-style fashion, Tokyo four-piece Broken Doll are a 1980s-inspired Japanese punk-rock band with an ever-growing following as street fashion icons, influenced by their unique marriage of music and fashion. Exemplifying their distinctive ‘visual kei’ aesthetic, members of the band also manage a fashion label and store in the trendy Shimokitazawa district of Tokyo. Upon the release of their latest single ‘I Miss You’, along with a bunch of releases over the years including 2012’s Reach for The Sky”… Broken Doll have channeled the styles of Blondie and The Sex Pistols via Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Baby Metal with their robust punk-rock sound and colourful fashion ala Japanese street culture craziness. Just returned from their first overseas jaunt in July to play London’s HYPER JAPAN they will be stitching into Australia for the first time, launching the ‘Future Beauty Up Late’ series at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art with an experience unlike anything presented at QAGOMA to date.

FLOWERTRUCK are a colourful garage-pop project blooming in Sydney’s Inner-West. Charles Rushforth is at the wheel, swapping bass and guitar responsibilities with Hamish Dobinson. Hailing from Sydney, hard rockers VANITY RIOTS combine stadium-worthy riffs and catchy melodies with the heavy undertones of modern metalcore. After releasing their sophomore EP, Ambulance, in 2013 the band scored sponsorships with CRX Cymbals and Collision Drumsticks, songs a featured on the covermount of Classic Rock UK, and radio play in Australia and abroad. Their latest single ‘Endlessly,’ is available for free download on Soundcloud as a thank you to followers for helping successfully crowd fund their video clip which was released in August. The video has recently been played on the Philippine’s biggest music television channel, MYX after Filipino heavy music mag, Pulp Magazine, published a three-page feature on the five-piece in October. Hypnotised by the garage sounds of the 60’s Asian/Western explosion, EMPAT LIMA draw on sounds of psychedelic Thai, traditional Japanese epics and dreamy Indonesian pop to make one balmy night of dancing A- go-go. Their super twangy guitars, exotic serene voices and driving rhythm section will have you drifting on a journey across oceans.
