DERADOORIAN
Touring Australia/NZ April 2016 and announcing special guests
.

In the light of debut Anticon album The Expanding Flower Planet and the previously announced FRIDAY NIGHTS AT NGV during Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei series Deradoorian announces special guests in the growing moments of this impending Antipodean tour.

Joining Deradoorian in Sydney will be BENJAMIN WITT ex-alter ego The Chemist in his latest guise with new track “Dead Fish” and currently touring as guests of Koi Child and Methyl Ethel… along with ALYX DENNISON previously known from duo Kyü and who had her self-titled debut album out last year on Pop Frenzy.

In Brisbane it will be Melbourne psych-pop explorer SUNBEAM SOUND MACHINE along with the Europe bound experimental-folk orientated local ANDREW TUTTLE in one of this final peformances before heading overseas. Info on all further below.

You’re familiar with Angel Deradoorian’s voice… as the former bassist, keyboardist and vocalist for Dirty Projectors, her levitating vocals buoyed the Brooklyn-based group. A member of Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, the voice on Flying Lotus’ “Siren Song,” as well as collaborations with Vampire Weekend, Bjork, Matmos, the Roots et al. Her first song collection, 2009’s Mind Raft EP elicited praise… The Fader hailed her ‘zen weed energy’ and ‘moody dervish spirals’. Her debut LP, The Expanding Flower Planet reflects a remarkable creative journey. The title came from a tapestry hanging on the wall in front of Deradoorian’s workstation—a Chinese embroidered image of a flower mandala.

Deradoorian embodies the synthesizing faint hints of Alice Coltrane and Can, Terry Riley, and Dorothy Ashby. A new world springs from ancient traditions—with East Indian, Middle Eastern, traditional Japanese music and Native American rhythms aligned with Deradoorian’s singular orbit.

The Expanding Flower Planet out now on Anticon

“The Expanding Flower Planet feels like an album full of trap doors, where a single, unexpected sound can deposit you into new worlds. Deradoorian explores krautrock rhythms, microtonal tunings, and various Eastern scales, including those of her Armenian heritage.”

Angel Deradoorian’s debut album The Expanding Flower Planet is “full of unusual juxtapositions: ’60s psych and Georgian polyphony; classical minimalism and laser-show maximalism; dulcimer and church organ. But her voice is the thread that holds it all together, and once the album has finished, tied off with a ribbon of wailing trombone, it’s her voice you remember most.”

BENJAMIN WITT
Multi-instrumentalist and musical mastermind Benjamin Witt has been holed up in his home studio for the last few months recording his latest solo adventure, Future Reset. Veering away from the days of The Chemist, this solo project offers series of loops, African influences, swirling choruses and electronic undertones resulting in a cacophony of sound, with each track as different as the next. “Dead Fish” is the first single off the forthcoming album, due for release in the coming months. A diverse journey, the album has equally diverse influences from Cornelius to Fela Kuti, from Beck to Beach Boys.

ALYX DENNISON
In 2010 Sydney-based duo kyü arrived for what was a short but sweet time as one of Australia’s finest young experimental pop outfits. Unearthed by triple j and awarded a Qantas Spirit of Youth Award, the pair seemed on the cusp of something great. Twelve months later Alyx Dennison and Freya Berkhout announced they would be parting ways and that kyü was no longer. Fast forward to 2014 and Alyx is thrilled to present her new sounds as a solo artist.

SUNBEAM SOUND MACHINE
Sunbeam Sound Machine is the brainchild of talented Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Nick Sowersby who writes and records in the sanctity of his garage in Collingwood, Australia. On Wonderer, Sowersby has honed in the washed out dream-pop sound he made his own on his first releases and has created bigger, brighter and more complete ethereal pop music. After earning critical acclaim on 2013’s double EP One/Sunbeam Sound Machine, Sunbeam Sound Machine release their debut long player, Wonderer. A dreamy pysch-pop release with heavy emphasis on catchy and repetitive lyricism – the kind that entrances the listener as it transports them to another world.
